Then Eric Almost Hit One
One Thursday morning, it was still dark when Eric left for work.
It had been raining.
As he backed his truck out, his rear sensor started beeping.
He stopped.
Melissa’s recycling bin was directly behind the passenger side of his truck.
He had not seen it.
Eric got out.
The bin was close enough that another few feet might have knocked it over.
He rolled it toward Melissa’s property.
Then he noticed the second bin.
It was sitting near the opposite side of his driveway.
Eric became frustrated.
Instead of placing them several feet away at the curb, he rolled both bins up onto Melissa’s front lawn.
Not far.
Only about ten feet from the curb.
But completely off the street.
Then he left for work.
Melissa Saw It on Her Doorbell Camera
At 7:42 a.m., Eric received a text.
Why did you put my trash cans in my yard?
Eric replied:
They were blocking my driveway again.
Melissa:
Trash pickup hasn’t happened yet.
Eric looked at the message.
Then realized something.
He had moved the bins before the garbage truck arrived.
That meant they might not get collected.
Eric replied:
Then move them back somewhere that doesn’t block my driveway.
Melissa:
I’m already at work.
Eric didn’t answer.
