Her Mother-in-Law Wore White to the Wedding—Then the Bride’s Sister Poured Red Wine on Her Dress

Emily noticed Susan before almost anyone else did.

She was standing near the entrance to the reception hall greeting guests.

Floor-length gown.

Ivory fabric.

Beaded waist.

Off-the-shoulder neckline.

For half a second, Emily genuinely thought another bride had walked into the venue.

Then the woman turned around.

It was her mother-in-law.

Emily’s stomach dropped.

Her sister Natalie whispered beside her:

“Is she serious?”

Emily didn’t answer.

Because this wasn’t an accident.

Three months earlier, Susan had sent Emily photographs of several dresses she was considering for the wedding.

One of them was ivory.

Emily had responded politely:

“They’re all beautiful, but I’d really prefer if immediate family stayed away from white or ivory.”

Susan replied with a thumbs-up.

That should have been the end of it.

Apparently, it wasn’t.
