Hannah couldn’t believe it.
“So?”
“Chloe actually has a wedding.”
“And?”
“And you’re not using it.”
Hannah stared at her stepmother.
Rebecca continued:
“Why should something beautiful sit in storage when someone in this family could actually wear it?”
Hannah responded:
“Because it’s not yours to give away.”
Rebecca’s expression hardened.
“After all these years, we’re still doing this?”
“Doing what?”
“Your mother. Your mother’s things. Your mother’s house. Your mother’s traditions.”
The room became quiet.
Chloe whispered:
“Mom, stop.”
Rebecca ignored her.
“I’ve been married to your father for seven years, Hannah.”
Hannah replied:
“And that still doesn’t make you the owner of my mom’s dress.”
