Police Found the SUV

Traffic cameras eventually located the vehicle that had driven past the Morgan home.

It was registered to a small car rental company.

A man had rented it using identification under another name.

Security footage from the rental counter showed an older man wearing glasses and a baseball cap.

Investigators compared the footage with photographs of Daniel Voss.

It was a possible match.

But not definitive.

Then Investigators Found Something Inside the Rental Car

The SUV was returned early the morning after the Morgan family disappeared.

Technicians searched it.

Inside the rear seat pocket was a printed photograph.

It showed the Morgan house.

Written across the bottom were the words:

28 WILLOW CREEK.

Police never publicly confirmed whether fingerprints were recovered.

But within hours, agencies in several states were searching for Daniel Voss.

Thomas Finally Surrendered

Five days after the disappearance, Thomas entered a police station with Emily and Caleb.

All three were unharmed.

Thomas immediately asked:

“Did you find Voss?”

Police told him they were still investigating.

Then detectives asked the question they had been waiting five days to ask.

“Thomas, what actually happened to David Keller?”

Thomas said:

“I don’t know.”

Investigators didn’t believe that was the full story.
