Linda Acted Like Nothing Was Wrong

Samantha approached her.

“Linda.”

Linda smiled.

“There you are!”

Samantha looked toward Allison.

Allison suddenly looked uncomfortable.

Linda said:

“You remember Allison, right?”

Samantha stared at her.

“No.”

Linda laughed lightly.

“Oh, I thought Daniel showed you pictures.”

Daniel stepped closer.

“Mom. Why is she here?”

Linda’s smile faded.

“She’s an old family friend.”

Daniel replied:

“She’s my ex.”

Allison immediately said:

“I told her this might be weird.”

Linda waved her off.

“Everyone is being dramatic.”

Samantha couldn’t believe it.

“She Was Part of This Family for Years”

That was Linda’s defense.

Allison had spent Christmas with them.

Thanksgiving.

Birthdays.

Family vacations.

Linda said:

“Just because you two broke up doesn’t mean the rest of us have to pretend she never existed.”

Samantha answered:

“Nobody asked you to pretend she never existed.”

Linda raised an eyebrow.

“Then what’s the problem?”

Samantha gestured around them.

“This is our wedding.”

Linda looked at Daniel.

“You invited college friends you haven’t seen in five years.”

Daniel replied:

“That is not the same thing.”

Linda shrugged.

“I disagree.”
