One Year Later
At another family wedding, Carol walked past the gift table.
She stopped.
Looked at Megan.
Then dramatically put both hands behind her back.
Megan laughed despite herself.
Ryan saw it.
“You two are never letting that go, are you?”
Josh answered:
“Absolutely not.”
The family could joke about it now.
But the lesson stuck.
Wedding gifts weren’t payment for a seat.
Parents helping fund a wedding didn’t buy control over the marriage.
And being family didn’t mean everything belonged to everyone.
Especially when somebody’s name was literally written on the envelope.
